Boulder, CO
Track-side sessions, real-time feedback, and a fully individualized plan, 1:1 with 2x Olympian Kathy Butler. A limited number of in-person spots for runners based in or spending real time in Boulder.
Check AvailabilityIn-person coaching is a different commitment than Kathy's online plans, and it isn't the right fit for everyone. It works best for runners based in Boulder full-time, or spending real, regular time here, who want hands-on feedback on form, pacing, or workout execution that a written plan alone can't give: track athletes who want gait and form correction watched and corrected in real time, marathoners who want pacing support on key long runs, or runners coming back from injury who want closer in-person supervision while rebuilding.
This is not the same as Run Boulder AC, Kathy's competitive group training program. Group training is a squad environment built around shared workouts and training partners. In-person 1:1 coaching is the opposite: one athlete, one coach, sessions built entirely around your own goals and schedule, with no group pace to match.
If you're not currently in Boulder, or this doesn't sound like the right fit, Kathy's online coaching gives you the same individualized planning without the in-person sessions.
Sessions where Kathy is physically present: track, trail, or road, 1:1 just for you.
Form, pacing, and effort corrected in the moment, the kind of feedback a written plan can't give.
Same individualized approach as Kathy's online coaching (built around your goals, schedule, and history), plus hands-on sessions layered in.
Sessions happen wherever the training calls for it, at spots like Marshall Road or East Boulder Rec, built around Boulder's trails, track access, and 5,430ft altitude, not a generic template. Exact locations vary week to week and are confirmed directly once you're in touch.
Training between in-person sessions is still tracked through Final Surge.
Because sessions are 1:1 and in-person, Kathy takes on only a small number of Boulder-based athletes at a time.
A typical session starts with a short warm-up and mobility work, then moves into the actual focus for that day: track intervals, a tempo effort, hill repeats, or drill work, depending on where you are in your training block. Kathy watches your form and pacing in real time and corrects it on the spot, stride length, arm carriage, foot strike, whatever is actually limiting you, rather than guessing from a screen after the fact.
Sessions happen at a mix of locations depending on the work planned: a local track for interval sessions, Boulder's trail and road network for tempo and easy running, and whatever terrain fits the workout for hill work. Training on the days between in-person sessions, easy runs, strength work, recovery, is still logged and tracked through Final Surge, the same platform Kathy uses with her online athletes, so the coaching stays connected even when you're training on your own.

In-person coaching is custom-quoted based on session frequency, location, and your goals. It isn't a fixed monthly plan like Kathy's online coaching, including her online marathon coaching for athletes training remotely. Get in touch and Kathy will put together a proposal that fits your schedule.
Discuss Pricing & AvailabilityRun Boulder AC is a group training program built around a shared squad and training partners. In-person 1:1 coaching is individual, no group pace, no shared workout, sessions built entirely around you. See the Group Training page for details on the squad program.
No. If you split your time between Boulder and elsewhere, in-person sessions can be scheduled for the weeks or months you're in town, with online coaching filling the gaps. Get in touch and Kathy will help figure out a schedule that fits.
There's no fixed schedule. Session frequency, from a weekly hands-on session to an occasional in-person check-in alongside online coaching, is worked out directly based on your goals, training block, and availability.
It depends on how often you meet and where. Unlike the fixed online coaching plans, in-person coaching is custom-quoted. Reach out with your goals and schedule and Kathy will put together pricing that fits.
